The Student Council that is now part of St. Albert the Great was started twenty-
three years ago. St. Anthony of Padua provided us with a platform to use as a
guideline. The program has been modified by the students and moderator every
three to four years to keep up with the changing culture and environment of the
School.
The mission of Student Council is to provide financial aid for people and things in
the parish or area that are in need, social activities for the students, spiritual
leadership through prayer, and service to others.
In order to raise money, they hold monthly spirit days, where students dress
according to a certain theme, and maintain a supply shop three days a week, where
students may purchase supplies they may need. We periodically have raffles or
games where students may win prizes.
Student Council also helps with the Jr. High, and 5th and 6th grade activity nights,
decorate the schools’ doors for Christmas, and hold an annual Halloween coloring
contest, along with sponsoring a huge Harvest for Hunger campaign every March
during Lent. At meetings prayer cards are made for the sick of the parish, and
school supplies are collected for needy schools.
Any seventh grader with a B average may run for Student Council during our
yearly election. Students run for the following offices: President, Vice-President,
Treasurer, Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, and Photographer. The students
who don’t win the election are then appointed to be homeroom representatives for
various grade levels.
